Will the Mets Stick With GM David Stearns?

At the moment, this is a hypothetical question. Despite a disastrous 2026 season, Steve Cohen has publicly said David Stearns is not going anywhere and expects him to remain in charge through the end of his contract in 2028.

That said, if the Mets are considering a change, here are some candidates that might be under consideration.

Mike DeBartolo (Assistant GM, Mets)

Widely regarded as one of baseball’s brightest young executives. Has worked closely with Stearns and knows the organization’s analytics and player development systems.Would probably be the favorite for an internal promotion.

Andy Green (Manager, Mets )

Current Mets manager with extensive front-office experience. Already deeply involved in player development and organizational strategy. If the Mets wanted continuity, he’d be a logical choice.

Matt Arnold

Current Brewers executive who worked under Stearns in Milwaukee. Excellent reputation for roster construction and player development. If available, he’d likely be near the top of any list.

Chris Leible

Player agent with many ties to the Mets. Formerly PR executive with the Mets, good reputation with media. Would be an interesting choice considering his relationships with players, ownership, and Mets organization.

Brandon Gomes

Helped build one of baseball’s deepest organizations. Strong blend of analytics, scouting, and player relations. Frequently mentioned around MLB as a future president of baseball operations.

Mike Hazen

Respected executive in baseball. Built Arizona into a consistent contender. Landing him would likely require a significant effort.
