It’s over Johnny! Any hopes for a good year are gone. The team is going nowhere–and fast. What can be done? Probably very little with the current team management.
This was, in its way, as bad a harbinger of what’s to come for the Mets as anything else. There was no drama this time, no tragic plot twist tinged with a little sitcom.
There never was a lead to blow: early, late, in-between. Most of the energy in evidence on the field was generated by the Yankees, and in the stands by their fans.
The final was 5-1. The only Mets fans who will lose sleep over this are the ones who shook too much hot sauce on their tamales as they were watching, who ordered hot peppers on their pizzas.
Mets fans can look to the Bronx Bombers for any baseball entertainment this season.
